Crime Survivors for Safety & Justice Chapter Coordinator Position Description Summary:

The Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice (CSSJ) Chapter Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating local organizing efforts that advocate for new safety priorities rooted in prevention, rehabilitation, and resources for crime survivors and families. The ideal candidate is a person with strong community ties, experience in local organizing, community outreach, advocacy, and working in communities experiencing the most harm and least served. With limited daily oversight, s/he will have the ability to work efficiently and adapt to rapidly evolving environments. The person will report to the CSSJ Director and work closely with the entire statewide CSSJ staff and team.


1. Help lead Californians for Safety & Justice’s efforts related to crime survivors, including, but not limited to: trainings, CSSJ presentations, outreach, event planning, and local organizing.

2. Maintain local chapter database and email list.

3. Facilitate local organizing trainings.

4. Attend monthly CSSJ Chapter Coordinator meetings.

5. Coordinate and facilitate monthly CSSJ full Chapter meetings.

6. Outreach and manage relationships with key stakeholders serving crime survivors and/or advancing new safety priorities.

7. Support outreach and coordination of annual CSSJ Survivors Speak conference in Sacramento.

8. Logistical support to CSSJ Director.

9. Participate in all CSJ/CSSJ professional development opportunities.

Required Qualifications:

1. Excellent verbal and written skills.

2. Well-organized and strong attention to detail.

3. Ability to work independently.

4. Strong interpersonal skills.

5. Strong commitment to social justice and advancing strategies that prioritize victims and families impacted by violence.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

1. Experience working with crime survivors preferred.

2. Existing knowledge of crime survivors.

3. Experience working on campaigns or local organizing efforts.
